Mental health nursing

Method

  1. Decide whether there is an immediate risk: suicide, violence, a drug emergency or a physical illness.
  2. Act on safety first: observe, remove means, de-escalate, stop a harmful drug, get help.
  3. Choose the therapeutic response: acknowledge feelings, present reality, avoid false reassurance and “why” questions.
  4. Respect rights: the least restrictive option, consent and confidentiality with its limits.

3Solutions

1.Mental health nursing

Answer: D · "You feel that people here don't really know you?"

Why this is the answer

Reflecting the patient's concern invites them to explore it. Defending the doctor, reassuring falsely or asking "why" all close the conversation down.

Answer

D · "You feel that people here don't really know you?"
2.Mental health nursing

Answer: C · Treatment without consent is lawful only under the conditions and procedures set by the law

Why this is the answer

Mental health laws allow some treatments for mental disorder without consent in defined circumstances, with safeguards such as second opinions and time limits. Staff must follow these procedures and record them, and should continue to seek the patient's agreement.

Answer

C · Treatment without consent is lawful only under the conditions and procedures set by the law
3.Clinical psychology

Answer: A · Displacement

Why this is the answer

Displacement shifts an impulse from a threatening target to a less threatening one. Projection attributes one's own unacceptable feelings to others.

A · Displacement
4.Clinical psychology

Answer: A · A structured clinical interview

Structured interviews such as the SCID ask standard questions tied to diagnostic criteria, increasing reliability compared with unstructured interviews.

Answer

A · A structured clinical interview
5.Pharmacology

Answer: B · Dopamine D2 receptors

Why this is the answer

Haloperidol blocks D2 receptors in the mesolimbic pathway, reducing positive symptoms. Blocking D2 in other pathways causes extrapyramidal effects and raised prolactin.

Answer

B · Dopamine D2 receptors
6.Pharmacology

Answer: B · Lithium blocks the kidney's response to ADH (nephrogenic diabetes insipidus)

Why this is the answer

Lithium interferes with ADH action in the collecting duct, causing polyuria and polydipsia. Dehydration from this can raise lithium levels further, so fluid balance matters.

Answer

B · Lithium blocks the kidney's response to ADH (nephrogenic diabetes insipidus)
