Which word is closest in meaning to ameliorate?
答え: C · A flashback to an earlier time
The author takes the reader back ten years before returning to the present, which is a flashback.
答え: A · The result may not represent all patients.
With only 10% responding, those who replied may differ from those who did not, so 80% satisfaction may not represent all patients. It does not prove most were unhappy.
答え: D · argument
“Argument” is an exception to the rule of keeping the silent e before a consonant suffix: argue → argument.
答え: A · It is an adjective phrase describing “nurse”.
The prepositional phrase tells which nurse, so it works as an adjective modifying “nurse”. The subject is “nurse”.
答え: C · A band that restricts blood flow
A tourniquet is a tight band that slows blood flow in a limb, making the veins easier to find.
答え: B · Improve
To ameliorate is to make something better or more bearable.
