Some birds, such as Arctic terns, migrate thousands of kilometres every year. Scientists think birds find their way using the sun, the stars and Earth’s magnetic field. Which word best describes the scientists’ explanation?
“When Ella received the award, she thanked her coach, her teammates and her parents, but said nothing about her own hard work.” Which trait does this most likely show?

Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The patient’s pulse was rapid and thready.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “After the loss, the patient showed marked apathy.”
答え: C · Uncertain
“Scientists think” shows the explanation is a likely idea, not something fully proven.
答え: D · Modesty
Giving credit to others and not praising herself shows modesty.
答え: C · She served sandwiches to the children on paper plates.
Placing “on paper plates” right after “children” makes it seem the children sat on the plates. The modifier should be next to “sandwiches”.
答え: A · The form that you need is on the desk, which is near the door.
“That you need” identifies the form, so it is essential and has no commas. “Which is near the door” adds extra information about the desk, so it follows a comma.
答え: D · Weak and hard to feel
A thready pulse is weak and difficult to feel, as can happen in shock.
答え: A · Lack of interest or emotion
Apathy is a lack of interest, enthusiasm or concern.
