The clinic’s new online booking system lets patients choose appointment times at any hour. Since it was introduced, missed appointments have dropped from 12 percent to 7 percent. Which statement is supported by the passage?
The author writes: “It is tempting to think that more vitamins are always better. Yet some vitamins, such as vitamin A, can build up in the body and become harmful in large doses.” What assumption does the author challenge?
Choose the correct verb: “She ___ in this city since 2015.”
Choose the correct verb: “Neither the nurses nor the doctor ___ aware of the change.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The child had an abscess on her arm.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “His symptoms were intermittent.”
答え: C · Fewer appointments were missed after the system was introduced.
Missed appointments fell from 12% to 7%, which is fewer but not zero.
答え: C · That taking more vitamins is always healthy
The author questions the belief that more vitamins are always better, pointing out that some can be harmful in excess.
答え: B · has lived
“Since 2015” with an action that continues to the present needs the present perfect: has lived.
答え: D · was
When subjects are joined by “or” or “nor”, the verb agrees with the nearer subject. “Doctor” is singular, so the verb is “was”.
答え: C · A collection of pus in the tissues
An abscess is a swollen, painful pocket of pus caused by infection.
答え: A · Coming and going at intervals
Intermittent means stopping and starting at intervals, not continuous.
