Some people think that a cold is caused by being out in cold weather. Colds are actually caused by viruses. People may catch more colds in winter because they spend more time indoors, close to others. According to the passage, why might colds be more common in winter?
“The hospital cut its use of paper by 40 percent after switching to electronic records. Staff said finding patient information became faster. A few older staff members needed extra training.” Which statement is best supported?
Which is the correct spelling of the past tense of “occur”?
Which revision is the most concise? “The nurse made a decision to conduct an assessment of the wound.”
Choose the meaning of the words in bold: “The patient gave informed consent before the operation.”
Choose the word that best completes the sentence: “The nurse ___ the patient’s concerns and arranged a meeting with the doctor.”
答え: B · People spend more time indoors near others.
The passage explains that people gather indoors in winter, which makes it easier for viruses to spread.
答え: A · The switch had benefits but also required some training.
The passage reports less paper and faster access (benefits) and extra training for a few staff (a cost). Only the first choice reflects all of this accurately.
答え: B · occurred
“Occur” is stressed on the last syllable, so the r doubles: occurred, occurring, occurrence.
答え: A · The nurse decided to assess the wound.
“Made a decision” becomes “decided” and “conduct an assessment of” becomes “assess”. C fixes only one phrase, B is still wordy and D adds the passive voice.
答え: C · Agreement given after understanding the risks and benefits
Informed consent is voluntary agreement to treatment by a person who understands what it involves, its risks, benefits and alternatives.
答え: A · acknowledged
To acknowledge is to accept or recognise that something exists or is important.
