The new park is the most beautiful place in the city. It has 200 trees, a playground and a small lake. Which statement from the passage is an opinion?
A product label reads: “Contains 200 mg of ibuprofen per tablet. Adults: 1–2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 6 tablets in 24 hours.” What is the most ibuprofen an adult may take in 24 hours according to the label?
Why are G–C base pairs held together more strongly than A–T pairs?
A dihybrid cross gives offspring in a ratio of about 9 : 3 : 3 : 1. What does this suggest?
Starch and cellulose are both made entirely of glucose units, yet humans can digest starch but not cellulose. Why?
Choose the correct word: “The thermometer, ___ was new, broke on the first day.”
Which sentence uses “whose” correctly?
What does the root my/o refer to?
Which word is the opposite of vasoconstriction?
B · The new park is the most beautiful place in the city.
“Most beautiful” is a personal judgement. The number of trees, the playground and the lake are facts that can be checked.
答え: D · 1200 mg
6 tablets × 200 mg = 1200 mg is the label’s 24-hour maximum.
B · G–C pairs form three hydrogen bonds, and A–T pairs form two
G–C pairs form three hydrogen bonds and A–T pairs form two. DNA rich in G–C therefore needs more energy (a higher temperature) to separate the strands.
D · Both parents are heterozygous for two genes that assort independently
AaBb × AaBb with unlinked genes gives 9 A_B_ : 3 A_bb : 3 aaB_ : 1 aabb. Linked genes or other parent genotypes give different ratios.
C · The glucose units are linked differently, and humans lack an enzyme to break cellulose's links
Starch and cellulose differ in how their glucose units are bonded. Human digestive enzymes can hydrolyse the links in starch but not those in cellulose, so cellulose passes through as dietary fibre.
A · which
“Which” is used for things in a nonessential clause. “Who” and “whom” refer to people.
C · The student whose book was lost asked for help.
“Whose” shows possession. In the other sentences “who’s” or “who is” would be needed, or the possessive is wrongly contracted.
C · Muscle
My/o means muscle: myocardium is heart muscle and myalgia muscle pain.
A · Vasodilation
Vasoconstriction is narrowing of the blood vessels and vasodilation is their widening; a vasospasm is a sudden, temporary constriction.
