A thermometer reading of 39 °C (102.2 °F) is described as a high fever in the nurse’s notes. The next morning, the reading is 37 °C (98.6 °F). What does this suggest?
A study abstract states: “Participants who drank green tea daily reported fewer colds. However, they also exercised more and smoked less than the other participants.” Why does the second sentence matter?
What happens to a protein when it is denatured?
Why is ATP described as an energy carrier rather than a long-term energy store?
What is the mass of 0.5 mol of NaCl (molar mass 58.5 g/mol)?
Which of these is a redox reaction?
Which sentence is punctuated correctly with a dependent clause at the end?
Which sentence uses “whom” correctly?
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The fever subsided overnight.”
What does the term hypoxia mean?
D · The patient’s fever has come down.
The temperature fell from 39 °C (a high fever) to 37 °C, which is close to normal, so the fever has come down.
D · Other differences between the groups might explain the result.
The tea drinkers also differed in exercise and smoking, so these confounding factors could explain the fewer colds.
比例式では 2 つの比が等しく、a/b = c/d で、たすき掛け a·d = b·c で解きます。
A · It loses its 3D shape but keeps its amino acid sequence
Denaturing breaks the hydrogen bonds and other weak interactions that hold a protein's folded shape. The peptide bonds remain, so the sequence is unchanged, but the protein can no longer do its job.
A · Cells hold only a little and constantly recycle it from ADP
Cells keep only a small amount of ATP and remake it all the time from ADP and phosphate using energy from respiration. Long-term energy is stored as glycogen and fat.
答え: B · 29.25 g
0.5 mol × 58.5 g/mol = 29.25 g. Dividing instead of multiplying gives 117, which has the wrong units.
C · Zn + CuSO₄ → ZnSO₄ + Cu
Zinc goes from 0 to +2 and copper from +2 to 0, so electrons are transferred. In the other reactions every element keeps its oxidation number, so they are not redox.
B · We stayed inside because it was raining.
When a dependent clause beginning with “because” follows the main clause, no comma is normally used. A comma is used when the dependent clause comes first.
B · The doctor whom we met was friendly.
In A, “whom” is the object of “met” (we met him). In B, C and D the pronoun is the subject of a verb, so “who” is needed.
D · Became less intense
To subside is to become less strong or to settle down.
A · Too little oxygen in the tissues
Hypoxia is a lack of adequate oxygen at the tissue level.
