A recipe states: “For a softer cookie, bake for 8 minutes. For a crisper cookie, bake for 11 minutes.” What can you infer?
Paragraph A argues that hospitals should use more robots for routine tasks to free nurses for patient care. Paragraph B argues that robots cannot replace human comfort and judgement. On which point would both authors most likely agree?
Which sentence avoids an unnecessary comma?
Which sentence uses “fewer” and “less” correctly?
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “Poor eyesight can be a barrier to reading labels.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “His symptoms were intermittent.”
답: C · Longer baking makes the cookies crisper.
The only difference is time: 8 minutes for soft and 11 for crisp, so longer baking produces crisper cookies.
답: D · Human nurses play an important role in patient care.
Paragraph A wants to free nurses for patient care, and Paragraph B values human comfort and judgement; both see nurses as important.
답: D · The patient in room 4 needs a new IV bag.
“The patient in room 4” is the full subject, and nothing should separate it from the verb “needs”.
답: D · The new diet has fewer calories and less sugar.
Countable nouns (calories) take “fewer”; uncountable nouns (sugar) take “less”.
답: A · Obstacle
A barrier is something that prevents or blocks progress.
답: A · Coming and going at intervals
Intermittent means stopping and starting at intervals, not continuous.
