“Last summer, the town held its first food festival. More than 5000 people came, and the local restaurants sold out of food by evening. The mayor has already announced a second festival for next year.” Why most likely did the mayor announce a second festival?
The author writes: “Some argue that we should spend money on space exploration only after solving problems on Earth. But research for space has led to inventions used in medicine and everyday life.” What is the purpose of the second sentence?
Choose the correct form: “Take this medicine ___.”
Choose the correct verb: “By next June, she ___ her nursing degree.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The family was apprehensive about the test results.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The patient had flaccid paralysis of the left leg.”
답: C · The first festival was a big success.
Large crowds and sold-out restaurants show the festival was successful, which is the likely reason for holding another.
답: D · To show that space research also benefits Earth
The second sentence counters the first view by showing that space research has produced useful inventions on Earth.
답: D · every day
“Every day” (two words) means each day. “Everyday” (one word) is an adjective meaning ordinary, as in “everyday shoes”.
답: B · will have completed
The future perfect (will have + past participle) shows an action that will be complete before a specific future time.
답: A · Anxious or worried
Apprehensive means anxious or fearful that something bad may happen.
답: A · Limp, without muscle tone
Flaccid means soft and limp; flaccid paralysis has reduced or absent muscle tone.
