Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheid

Methode

2Oefenopgaven

1.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheidGemiddeld

A new antibiotic is prescribed for a patient. What should the nurse check before giving the first dose?

  1. AOnly the patient’s blood pressure and pulse before giving the drug
  2. BThe patient’s allergies, by checking the record and asking the patient
  3. CThe patient’s preferred pharmacy
  4. DOnly the time of the patient’s last meal and drink
2.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheidMoeilijk

A patient rescued from a house fire has a headache and confusion, but the pulse oximeter reads 99%. Why might this reading be misleading?

  1. APulse oximetry cannot tell carbon monoxide-bound hemoglobin from oxygen-bound hemoglobin
  2. BThe reading is accurate, so carbon monoxide poisoning is ruled out
  3. CConfusion and headache make pulse oximetry readings inaccurate in every patient
  4. DPulse oximeters always read falsely low after any kind of smoke exposure
3.BasisverpleegkundeGemiddeld

A patient has just finished a glass of iced water. How should this affect taking an oral temperature?

  1. ATake it straight away, as cold drinks do not affect the mouth
  2. BUse the reading but only if the patient says they feel warm
  3. CWait about 15–30 minutes, as the reading may be falsely low
  4. DAdd half a degree to the reading to correct for the drink
4.BasisverpleegkundeMoeilijk

According to current European (ERC) and 2025 American Heart Association guidelines, what is the first action for a conscious adult who is choking and cannot cough effectively?

  1. AGive 5 rescue breaths
  2. BGive a glass of water
  3. CStart chest compressions at once
  4. DGive up to 5 back blows
5.MicrobiologieGemiddeld

Wat doet PCR in een diagnostisch laboratorium?

  1. AHet kleurt bacteriën zodat ze zichtbaar worden
  2. BHet laat bacteriën sneller groeien op agarplaten

  4. DExotoxinen zijn hittestabiele lipiden

3Oplossingen

1.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheid

Antwoord: B · The patient’s allergies, by checking the record and asking the patient

Waarom dit het antwoord is

Before any new drug, the nurse checks recorded allergies and asks the patient directly about past reactions. The patient is then watched closely after the first dose.

Antwoord

B · The patient’s allergies, by checking the record and asking the patient
2.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheid

Antwoord: A · Pulse oximetry cannot tell carbon monoxide-bound hemoglobin from oxygen-bound hemoglobin

Waarom dit het antwoord is

Standard pulse oximeters read carboxyhemoglobin as oxyhemoglobin, so SpO2 can look normal in carbon monoxide poisoning. A blood carboxyhemoglobin level confirms it, and high-flow oxygen is given.

Antwoord

A · Pulse oximetry cannot tell carbon monoxide-bound hemoglobin from oxygen-bound hemoglobin
3.Basisverpleegkunde

Antwoord: C · Wait about 15–30 minutes, as the reading may be falsely low

Waarom dit het antwoord is

Hot or cold drinks, eating and smoking change the temperature in the mouth for a while. The nurse waits 15–30 minutes or uses another site.

Antwoord

C · Wait about 15–30 minutes, as the reading may be falsely low
4.Basisverpleegkunde

Antwoord: D · Give up to 5 back blows

Waarom dit het antwoord is

For severe airway obstruction in a conscious adult, give up to 5 back blows, then up to 5 abdominal thrusts if needed, and repeat. Older US teaching started with abdominal thrusts alone. If they become unresponsive, start CPR.

Antwoord

D · Give up to 5 back blows
5.Microbiologie
