A nurse pours sterile saline into a bowl on a sterile field. Which technique is correct?
ARest the lip of the bottle on the edge of the bowl so that the saline does not splash
BReach across the field to fill the bowl at the far side
CPour from below the level of the field to reduce splashing
DHold the bottle with the label in the palm and pour without touching the bowl
A patient with pulmonary tuberculosis has been on treatment. Which findings usually allow airborne isolation to end?
AOne negative chest x-ray after starting treatment
BThree negative sputum smears, clinical improvement and continued therapy
CThe patient has been in hospital for one week and has taken every dose of medicine
DThe cough has stopped, even with no sputum tests
What is the purpose of a negative-pressure isolation room?
AThe low pressure kills bacteria inside the room
BIt makes it easier for patients to breathe
CAir flows into the room, so airborne particles do not escape into the corridor
DAir flows out of the room, keeping germs from the corridor away from the patient
A healthcare assistant (nursing assistant) has recorded a blood pressure of 82/50 mmHg during routine observations but did not report it. What should the registered nurse do first?
ARepeat the observations at the next routine time
BAssess the patient straight away
CTalk to the healthcare assistant about reporting
DComplete an incident report
AОпортуністичної інфекції
BЗоонозної інфекції
CТрансмісивної інфекції
DХарчової інфекції
Mycoplasma pneumoniae?
D · Hold the bottle with the label in the palm and pour without touching the bowl
The nurse pours from a little height without touching the sterile bowl, avoiding splashes that would wet the field. Holding the label in the palm keeps it readable and free of drips.
D · Hold the bottle with the label in the palm and pour without touching the bowl
B · Three negative sputum smears, clinical improvement and continued therapy
Airborne precautions usually continue until the patient is on effective therapy, is improving clinically and has three negative sputum smears for acid-fast bacilli, according to policy.
B · Three negative sputum smears, clinical improvement and continued therapy
C · Air flows into the room, so airborne particles do not escape into the corridor
Negative pressure draws air into the room and out through filtered exhaust. It is used for airborne infections such as tuberculosis; positive pressure is used to protect patients with very weak immunity.
C · Air flows into the room, so airborne particles do not escape into the corridor
B · Assess the patient straight away
A low blood pressure may mean deterioration, so the nurse assesses the patient at once and escalates if needed. Feedback to the assistant and reporting follow afterwards.
B · Assess the patient straight away
A · Опортуністичної інфекції
