Phương pháp
- Hãy đọc câu hỏi trước để biết bạn đang tìm gì.
- Lướt đoạn văn để nắm chủ đề và ý chính; câu đầu hoặc câu cuối thường nêu ra điều đó.
- Quay lại đúng những dòng trả lời câu hỏi.
- Với câu suy luận, hãy chọn phương án mà các manh mối ủng hộ mạnh nhất, không phải phương án đi xa hơn.
- Với nhãn và bảng, hãy áp dụng mọi quy tắc phù hợp với trường hợp và làm phép tính nhỏ một cách cẩn thận.

Phương pháp
- Tìm chủ ngữ và động từ của câu trước khi chọn dạng từ.
- Bỏ các cụm từ (of the …, along with …) và những người thêm vào (you and …) để kiểm tra sự hòa hợp và cách của đại từ.
- Kiểm tra từng mệnh đề: nó có đứng một mình được không? Nối các mệnh đề độc lập bằng dấu phẩy + liên từ hoặc dấu chấm phẩy.
- Kiểm tra các từ bổ nghĩa và danh sách: cụm miêu tả đứng cạnh từ của nó, các mục cùng dạng.
- Về chọn từ và văn phong, hãy chọn phương án chính xác, trang trọng và ngắn gọn.

Phương pháp
- Đọc cả câu và tìm manh mối ngữ cảnh: một định nghĩa, một sự tương phản, một ví dụ hoặc quan hệ nguyên nhân–kết quả.
- Tách một từ lạ thành tiền tố, gốc từ và hậu tố rồi dịch nghĩa từng phần.
- Đọc một thuật ngữ y khoa từ hậu tố ngược về đầu (hepat-itis: viêm gan).
- Đặt từng lựa chọn vào câu và kiểm tra xem nghĩa còn phù hợp không.
- Chọn nghĩa được dùng trong câu này, dù từ đó còn có nghĩa thông thường khác.
