1Formulas and methods
Biology for nursing entrance exams
Method
- Name the topic of the question: cell parts, transport, division, DNA and protein synthesis, inheritance, biomolecules, microorganisms or experimental design.
- Recall the key rule: A–T and G–C, diffusion from high to low, water moves towards more solute, mitosis keeps and meiosis halves the chromosome number.
- For crosses, write the parents’ genotypes, list the gametes and fill a Punnett square before counting.
- For experiments, label the independent, dependent and controlled variables, and ask whether the evidence supports or only suggests the conclusion.
- Check each option against the question asked, not just whether it is a true statement.
Chemistry for nursing entrance exams
Method
- Identify what is given and asked: particles, a formula, a state change, a concentration, a pH or a mass.
- Use the periodic table: the atomic number gives protons, the group gives valence electrons and the usual ion charge.
- Balance equations with coefficients only, element by element, oxygen and hydrogen last.
- For amounts, go mass → moles → mole ratio → moles → mass, and for solutions use M = mol/L and C₁V₁ = C₂V₂.
- Remember that pH is logarithmic: one unit is a factor of 10.

- AOptic nerve (II)
- BOculomotor nerve (III)
- CAbducens nerve (VI)
- DTrochlear nerve (IV)
3.Human physiologyMedium
Why does glucose appear in the urine in uncontrolled diabetes mellitus?
- AThe filtered load exceeds the tubular transport maximum
- BInsulin is needed for glucose reabsorption in the tubule
- CThe glomerulus stops filtering glucose
- DThe collecting duct actively secretes glucose
4.Human physiologyHard
According to the length–tension relationship, why does a skeletal muscle fibre produce less force when overstretched?
- AActin and myosin overlap less, so fewer cross-bridges form
- BThe neuromuscular junction stops working
- CThe muscle runs out of ATP when stretched
- DCalcium is no longer released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum when stretched
5.Biology for nursing entrance examsMedium
After gel electrophoresis, which DNA fragments are found furthest from the wells?
- AThe largest fragments
- BThe fragments with the most guanine
- CThe smallest fragments
- DThe fragments with the most adenine
6.Biology for nursing entrance examsHard
A light microscope has a 10× eyepiece and a 40× objective lens. What is the total magnification?
- A40×
- B400×
- C50×
- D4000×

Why can a very high fever disrupt the body's chemical reactions?
- AHigh temperatures turn enzymes into fats
- BHigh temperatures remove the water from blood
- CHigh temperatures make every enzyme work faster without any limit
- DHigh temperatures can change the shape of enzymes so they stop working
8.Chemistry for nursing entrance examsHard
Alkanes follow the general formula CₙH₂ₙ₊₂. What is the formula of the alkane with 4 carbon atoms?
- AC₄H₁₂
- BC₄H₁₀
- CC₄H₆
- DC₄H₈
3Solutions
1.Human anatomy
Answer: A · Abducens nerve (VI)
Why this is the answer
The abducens nerve (VI) supplies lateral rectus. A lesion stops the eye moving outwards and causes horizontal double vision.
2.Human anatomy
Answer: B · Oculomotor nerve (III)
Why this is the answer
The oculomotor nerve supplies most eye muscles, levator palpebrae and the pupil constrictor. Lesion leaves lateral rectus and superior oblique unopposed, so the eye goes down and out.
B · Oculomotor nerve (III)
3.Human physiology
Answer: A · The filtered load exceeds the tubular transport maximum
Why this is the answer
Proximal tubule SGLT carriers can reabsorb only so much glucose. When plasma glucose is high, the filtered load exceeds this maximum and the excess is excreted.
A · The filtered load exceeds the tubular transport maximum
4.Human physiology
Answer: A · Actin and myosin overlap less, so fewer cross-bridges form
Why this is the answer
Maximum force occurs at an optimal sarcomere length with best filament overlap. Overstretching reduces overlap; too short a length makes filaments collide.
A · Actin and myosin overlap less, so fewer cross-bridges form
5.Biology for nursing entrance exams
Answer: C · The smallest fragments
Why this is the answer
Smaller fragments slip through the pores of the gel faster and travel further. Large fragments stay closer to the wells where the samples were loaded.
C · The smallest fragments
6.Biology for nursing entrance exams
Answer: B · 400×
Why this is the answer
Total magnification = eyepiece × objective = 10 × 40 = 400×.
7.Chemistry for nursing entrance exams
Answer: D · High temperatures can change the shape of enzymes so they stop working
Why this is the answer
Enzymes are proteins with a specific shape. Too much heat breaks the weak bonds holding that shape, changing the active site (denaturation), so the enzyme can no longer bind its substrate.
D · High temperatures can change the shape of enzymes so they stop working
8.Chemistry for nursing entrance exams
Answer: B · C₄H₁₀
Why this is the answer
For n = 4: H = 2(4) + 2 = 10, so the formula is C₄H₁₀ (butane). C₄H₈ fits CₙH₂ₙ, the alkene formula.
