“Ms. Brown reminded the class that the library books were due back on Monday. On Monday morning, half the class arrived without their books.” What can be concluded?
A school sends this note: “Due to the forecast of heavy snow, all classes will move online on Friday. Students should log in at the usual time. The building will be closed.” Which statement is NOT supported by the note?
Choose the correct words: “He drives ___ than his brother.”
Choose the correct verb: “If it rains tomorrow, we ___ the picnic.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “Subsequent blood tests were all normal.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The patient was taught to recognise the precursors of a migraine.”
答え: A · Some students forgot the reminder.
Ms. Brown did give the reminder, yet half the class came without their books, so some students forgot (or ignored) it.
答え: D · Classes on Friday are cancelled entirely.
The note says classes move online, not that they are cancelled. The other three statements are directly supported.
答え: A · more carefully
“Carefully” is an adverb describing “drives”. Adverbs ending in -ly form the comparative with “more”.
答え: B · will postpone
For a likely future condition, use the present tense in the if-clause and “will” + base verb in the main clause. “Would” is used for unreal or unlikely conditions.
答え: C · Coming after
Subsequent means following in time or order.
答え: A · Warning signs that come before it
A precursor is something that comes before and signals what follows.
