Which sentence is punctuated correctly with an essential clause?
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The test results were inconclusive.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The team recommended palliative care.”
答え: D · Problem and solution
The passage states a problem (a narrow bridge) and then gives the solution (a second bridge and one-way traffic).
答え: B · An objection is stated and then answered with evidence.
The author first states a possible objection and then responds with evidence from company trials, a counterargument-and-rebuttal structure.
答え: D · led
The past tense of “lead” (to guide) is “led”. “Lead” spelled this way is the present tense or the name of a metal.
答え: B · The medication that she needs is out of stock.
“That she needs” identifies which medication is meant, so it is essential and is not set off with commas.
答え: D · Not leading to a firm answer
Inconclusive results do not settle the question, so more tests may be needed.
答え: B · Care that focuses on comfort and symptom relief
Palliative care relieves symptoms and improves quality of life rather than curing the disease.
