“I was born in 1950 in a small farming village. Every morning I walked three miles to school, even in the snow.” What type of source is this most likely?
“Patient A’s heart rate: 72 at 8 a.m., 74 at noon, 71 at 4 p.m. Patient B’s heart rate: 70 at 8 a.m., 95 at noon, 118 at 4 p.m.” Which patient should the nurse be more concerned about, and why?
What is the difference between an epidemic and a pandemic?
Two populations of one species live on separate islands for many thousands of years. When brought together, they can no longer interbreed. What has happened?
Which coefficients balance __Na + __Cl₂ → __NaCl?
At room temperature chlorine (Cl₂) is a gas, bromine (Br₂) is a liquid and iodine (I₂) is a solid. What best explains this trend?
Which salutation is punctuated correctly for a formal business letter in American style?
Which choice correctly reports the speech? She said, “I am tired.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “Nurses use therapeutic communication with patients.”
Which word is closest in meaning to innocuous?
C · A primary source, such as a memoir
A first-hand account by someone who lived the events is a primary source. A textbook summarising others’ accounts would be secondary.
A · Patient B, because the rate is rising steadily.
Patient A’s rate stays fairly steady, while Patient B’s climbs from 70 to 118. A steadily rising heart rate is a change that needs attention.
米国の慣用単位:1 ft = 12 in、1 yd = 3 ft、1 mi = 5280 ft、1 gal = 4 qt、1 qt = 2 pt、1 pt = 2 cups、1 ton = 2000 lb。時間:1 h = 60 min、1 min = 60 s、1 day = 24 h、1 week = 7 days。
D · A pandemic spreads across many countries or continents
An epidemic is a sharp rise in cases in a particular region or population. A pandemic is an epidemic that has spread over a very wide area, across several countries or continents.
B · Speciation after geographic isolation
Geographic isolation stops gene flow. Over time, mutation, natural selection and chance change each population until they can no longer interbreed, forming new species.
答え: D · 2, 1, 2
Cl₂ has two Cl atoms, so 2NaCl is needed, which needs 2Na: 2Na + Cl₂ → 2NaCl. Each side has 2 Na and 2 Cl.
D · Larger molecules with more electrons have stronger dispersion forces
Going down group 17 the molecules get bigger with more electrons, so temporary dipoles are larger and dispersion forces stronger. More energy is needed to separate the molecules, raising melting and boiling points.
A · Dear Dr. Smith:
In American business letters a colon follows the salutation, and a comma is used in friendly letters. British letters normally use a comma or no mark (“Dear Dr Smith,”).
C · She said that she was tired.
In reported speech, “I” becomes “she” and the present tense usually shifts back to the past after “said”.
D · Promoting healing and well-being
Therapeutic means having a healing or helpful effect.
A · Harmless
Innocuous means not harmful or offensive.
