A label on a cleaning spray reads: “Use in a well-ventilated area. Do not mix with bleach. Keep away from children.” Which action follows the label?
The author writes: “People who take the stairs instead of the lift (elevator) are healthier. So, if we remove the lifts, everyone will become healthier.” What is wrong with this reasoning?
Which sentence handles the number at the start of the sentence correctly?
When is the passive voice most appropriate?
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The edges of the wound were necrotic.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The sudden drop in blood pressure was transient.”
답: D · Opening a window while using the spray
A well-ventilated area has good airflow, so opening a window follows the label. The other choices break its rules.
답: C · It ignores other reasons for the link and new problems.
Healthy people may simply choose stairs more often, and removing lifts would harm people who cannot climb stairs. The conclusion goes beyond the evidence.
답: C · Twenty patients were seen today.
A number that begins a sentence is written out in words. No hyphen or comma joins the number to its noun.
답: B · When the doer of the action is unknown or unimportant
The passive voice focuses on the receiver of the action. It is useful when the doer is unknown or does not matter, as in many lab reports.
답: C · Made up of dead tissue
Necrotic tissue is dead tissue, often black or grey, that may need to be removed.
답: A · Lasting only a short time
Transient means temporary or short-lived.
