Paragraph: “Exercise has many benefits. It strengthens the heart and lungs. It helps control weight. It can also improve mood and sleep.” Which sentence is the topic sentence?
Passage A: “Homework helps students practise skills learned in class.” Passage B: “Too much homework can cause stress and leave little time for rest.” Which statement best combines both passages?
Which sentence avoids an unnecessary comma?
Which word in this sentence is used as an adverb? “The surgery went well, and the patient recovered fast.”
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The nurse will reposition the patient every two hours.”
Which word is the opposite of intrinsic?
답: A · Exercise has many benefits.
The first sentence states the main idea, and the other three give supporting details (specific benefits).
답: C · Homework can help, but too much can be harmful.
Passage A gives a benefit and Passage B a drawback of too much homework. Only the first choice reflects both views.
답: C · The patient in room 4 needs a new IV bag.
“The patient in room 4” is the full subject, and nothing should separate it from the verb “needs”.
답: C · fast
“Fast” tells how the patient recovered, so it is an adverb (like “well”). Words such as fast, hard and late can be adjectives or adverbs.
답: A · Move into a new position
To reposition is to change a person’s position, for example from lying on the back to lying on the side.
답: B · Extrinsic
Intrinsic means coming from within, and extrinsic means coming from outside.
