Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheid

Methode

2Oefenopgaven

1.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheidGemiddeld

Why is keeping a patient warm (normothermia) during surgery part of infection prevention?

  1. ACold makes bacteria grow faster in the operating room air and on the drapes
  2. BWarmth sterilizes the surgical site
  3. CLow body temperature reduces blood flow and immune function in the wound
  4. DWarm patients do not need antibiotic prophylaxis
2.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheidMoeilijk

A patient with pneumonia has low blood pressure and a raised serum lactate. What does the raised lactate suggest?

  1. APoor tissue perfusion, a sign of sepsis-related shock
  2. BMild dehydration from poor intake, with no further concern
  3. CA normal response to having a fever
  4. DRecovery from the infection is beginning
3.BasisverpleegkundeGemiddeld

When should blood cultures be taken in a patient with suspected sepsis?

  1. AAfter the patient has recovered from the infection
  2. BBefore antibiotics are given, as long as this does not delay them
  3. COnly if the temperature rises above 40 °C
  4. DOnly after three days of antibiotics, to see if they are working
4.BasisverpleegkundeMoeilijk

An 86-year-old has new confusion and a temperature of 37,1 °C. Why should infection still be considered?

  1. AOlder adults often have a weaker fever response to infection
  2. BConfusion is always caused by infection in older adults
  3. CA temperature of 37,1 °C is a fever in older adults
  4. DOlder adults normally have a higher body temperature
5.MicrobiologieGemiddeld

Cholera veroorzaakt overvloedige "rijstwater"-diarree. Wat is de belangrijkste behandeling?

  4. Dworden gedood door normaal koken en desinfecteren

3Oplossingen

1.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheid

Antwoord: C · Low body temperature reduces blood flow and immune function in the wound

Waarom dit het antwoord is

Hypothermia causes vasoconstriction and less oxygen in the wound, which weakens the immune defense. Keeping the patient warm is linked to fewer surgical site infections.

Antwoord

C · Low body temperature reduces blood flow and immune function in the wound
2.Infectiepreventie en patiëntveiligheid

Antwoord: A · Poor tissue perfusion, a sign of sepsis-related shock

Waarom dit het antwoord is

When tissues are poorly perfused, cells switch to anaerobic metabolism and lactate rises. In a patient with infection and hypotension, this points to septic shock and needs urgent treatment.

Antwoord

A · Poor tissue perfusion, a sign of sepsis-related shock
3.Basisverpleegkunde

Antwoord: B · Before antibiotics are given, as long as this does not delay them

Waarom dit het antwoord is

Taking cultures first gives the best chance of identifying the organism. They are collected with strict asepsis, but antibiotics must not be delayed in sepsis.

Antwoord

B · Before antibiotics are given, as long as this does not delay them
4.Basisverpleegkunde

Antwoord: A · Older adults often have a weaker fever response to infection

Waarom dit het antwoord is

Older adults may not mount a fever, and infection can show up as confusion, falls or reduced eating instead. A normal temperature does not rule out infection in this group.

Antwoord

A · Older adults often have a weaker fever response to infection
5.Microbiologie
