Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The new policy will augment the number of nurses on night shifts.”
答案: B · The new park is the most beautiful place in the city.
“Most beautiful” is a personal judgement. The number of trees, the playground and the lake are facts that can be checked.
答案: A · To describe how nurses can ease patients’ fears
The passage informs readers about ways nurses can reduce patient anxiety. It does not argue against surgery or criticise nurses.
答案: C · She doesn’t like hospital food.
“Doesn’t” is short for “does not”. The apostrophe replaces the missing o, so it goes between n and t.
答案: D · giving medications, charting vitals and educating patients
In A all three items are gerund phrases (giving, charting, educating). The other options mix gerunds, infinitives and nouns.
答案: B · Decide what is most important first
To prioritise (US: prioritize) is to arrange tasks in order of importance and deal with the most urgent first.
答案: B · Increase
To augment is to make larger or add to.
