Jordan studied every evening for two weeks and made flashcards of the hardest terms. On the day of the exam, he walked out of the room smiling. What can you infer about Jordan?
A report says: “In 2020, the clinic saw 400 patients with asthma. In 2023, it saw 600.” Which conclusion is best supported?
Choose the correct form: “You must ___ your hands before entering.”
Which sentence contains an error in subject–verb agreement?
Choose the meaning of the word in bold: “The patient now meets the criteria for discharge.”
Choose the word that best completes the sentence: “Her answer was ___: it could be understood in two different ways.”
答案: C · He felt that the exam went well.
His careful preparation and his smile suggest he felt confident about how he did. The other choices contradict the passage.
答案: D · The clinic saw 50 percent more asthma patients in 2023.
The rise from 400 to 600 is 200, which is 50 percent of 400. The data come from one clinic, so they cannot show a national trend or explain the cause.
答案: D · wash
Modal verbs such as must, can, should and will are followed by the base form of the verb, without “to”.
答案: C · The quality of the photos are poor.
In the first sentence the subject is “quality” (singular), so it should be “is poor”. The others agree.
答案: D · Standards used to judge or decide
Criteria (singular: criterion) are the standards used to make a judgement or decision.
答案: D · ambiguous
Ambiguous means open to more than one interpretation. Explicit means clearly stated.
